Weekly Hobby Update : 5-16-18

Hey Everyone!  The newest edition of Warhammer Age fo Sigmar was announced this past weekend at Warhammer Fest and I cannot be more excited!  Not to mention a plethora of other great announcements, such as Stormcast, Nighthaunt, and more!  Thankfully, it won't be long before we get our hand son the changes and see how the shape of the game will change going forward.  If you didn't see the announcement already NOVA Open this year will be using the latest rules and you can expect the event packs to come out shortly after the new edition drops.  There are still spots available for the GT and Doubles, but I imagine they will be going quickly.

My local club met up this past weekend for some 40k gaming and I took the opportunity to begin relearning the game since the recent Big FAQ dropped.  I haven't played it since the initial release due to Age of Sigmar projects had taken up all of my time, but with things, a bit more settled, I found the time to grab my bolter and head to battle with the honoured first legion, The Dark Angels.  I had a fun time learning the game and hope to get casual games in a bit more regularly going forward.  The day had a fun turnout and even though the Grim Future of 40k was the focus everyone was buzzing about the new Edition of Age of Sigmar.  This coming weekend is our monthly Age of Sigmar club day so I imagine the excitement will only be growing for us.

Ont he painting side of the hobby I was finally successful in finishing my two units of Melusai this past week.  The kits are lovely and I enjoyed every bit of painting every bit of them.  I plan to throw them in lists here and there, but there is little doubt that I will be adding more of them in the future to support my Horde of Witch Aelves.  I don't plan on going full Temple Nest just yet, but having another five of each unit is a necessity that I need to remedy.

With the Melusai completed I was able to get my Khinerai primed and ready for paint.  Just like my Melusai snake bodies, I will use my Transformed Morathi as a reference to ensure the wings match hers.  While I find the model stable for table use they feel a bit flimsy while painting, but I am committed to finishing them up fairly quickly so I can dive into some of my one-off projects sitting in my hobby queue.

Outside of the one-off project models, I have been thinking a great deal about my future Idoneth Deepkin army.  I am still very eager to paint an army to the highest level I can with the lofty goal to earn a painting nomination at a major event,  However,  I find my mind focused on Daughter's even though the army is almost complete so I have looked at going back over the army to add more highlights, blends, etc... and add in some Khainite themed Deepkin as allies.  I have had friends tell me to go full Deepkin and others to take my current army to the next level so I am a bit unsure of what to do.  I am curious about your thoughts on the subject and if you ever faced a similar decision so let me know in the comments.  I look forward to seeing what everyone suggest and until Friday, Happy Hobbying!
